When Mitsubishi Keys Act Up
- Key stuck or won't turn? A worn key and a worn ignition feel the same from the driver's seat. We test which one it is before anything gets cut.
- Bought a used Mitsubishi with one key? Get a second one made while the first still works.
Mitsubishi keys by type
- Chip keys, many paired with a separate remote: the Galant, Eclipse, Endeavor, Montero and early Lancer and Outlander, mostly the 2000s.
- One-piece remote keys: plenty of entry-level Mirage, Outlander Sport and Lancer trims, roughly 2008 onward.
- F.A.S.T. keyless fobs: the Outlander XLS from 2007, upper Lancer, Outlander and Outlander Sport trims after that, and most Eclipse Cross and newer Outlander models.
Same year, different key is common here. In 2007 the Outlander XLS shipped with F.A.S.T. keyless entry, while the ES and LS used a plain key and remote. With the VIN in hand, call (443) 527-1442 and the correct key comes along.
Mitsubishi puts the VIN on a small plate at the lower driver-side corner of the dash, readable through the windshield, and it's also on your registration.
Mitsubishi Key Problems We Fix
Mitsubishi F.A.S.T. (keyless) fobs
- Extra and replacement F.A.S.T. fobs get programmed here for the Outlander, Outlander Sport, Eclipse Cross, Lancer and Mirage.
- No start plus a key warning on the dash most often means the fob battery is weak. The FAQ below covers starting it anyway.
- An emergency key slides out of every F.A.S.T. fob for the driver's door.
Broken Mitsubishi key? Head or case
- One-piece remote keys on the Lancer and Mirage split at the neck where blade and plastic join. The remote and chip can be moved into a new head.
- F.A.S.T. fob cases get scuffed open at the seams. A new case keeps your working board in use.
Before We Get There
- Tell us if your Mitsubishi starts with a button or a key.
- If you have any old Mitsubishi key, even a broken one, keep it for us.
- Clear a little space around the driver's door so we can work.

Good to Know
- Is a Mitsubishi key harder to replace than other brands? It can take more specific parts, so share your model on the phone and we'll pack the right ones.
- What is a Mitsubishi F.A.S.T. key? It's Mitsubishi's name for its keyless smart key. You can unlock and start the car while it stays in your pocket.
- No key left for my older Lancer. What now? We cut a new key and program the chip to the car.
- My Mitsubishi starts with a turn knob, not a button. What if the fob dies? On most knob models, remove the knob cover, fit the emergency key into the lock underneath and turn it like a regular key. Button models either take the fob in a slot or start with the fob held up to the button. The manual in your glovebox says which one applies.
- Does a Mitsubishi key have to come from the dealer? No. Most Mitsubishi F.A.S.T. fobs and regular keys, even with every key lost, get cut and set up at your car, wherever it sits.
- Can you add a second F.A.S.T. fob to my Mitsubishi? Sure. The added fob gets paired alongside your current one, and both keep working.
