What Programming Does

Programming pairs the fob with your car so its buttons lock and unlock the doors and open the trunk or hatch. On many cars, the chip that lets the car start is programmed at the same time. We program new fobs and fobs you already have that stopped working.

Good to Know

  1. Do you need the car there to program a fob? We do. The fob is paired with the car itself, so we program it with the car right there.
  2. Does programming a new fob affect my other fobs? On some cars, every fob has to be programmed in the same session, so have them all on hand.
  3. How many fobs can one car have? It depends on the car. Most allow several, so a fob for each driver is usually no problem.
  4. Can a fob from another car be programmed to mine? It depends on the make. Many smart fobs lock to the first car they're programmed to and can't be reused, while some remotes can. Give us the part number and we'll check.
  5. Can a weak car battery stop fob programming? Yes. Programming needs steady power, so a tired car battery can make it fail. We check the battery first and give it a boost if needed.
