Ford Car Keys and Fobs, Made Where You Are

AUTHORITY LOCKSMITH INC · FORD KEYS

Ford trucks and SUVs check a chip in the key before they'll run, so a plain copy from a key kiosk won't start them. We head your way 24/7 and program a new Ford key or fob to your vehicle. That goes for Ford chip keys, flip keys, integrated remote keys and Intelligent Access fobs. Call (443) 527-1442.

Ford Models We See Most

F-150 · F-250 · Escape · Explorer · Fusion · Focus · Edge · Ranger · Expedition · Transit · Mustang · Bronco Sport · Taurus

When Ford Keys Act Up

  • Remote start quit but the doors still lock? We check the fob and reprogram it to your Ford if that's what it needs.
  • Older F-150 key sticking when you turn it? Either the key's teeth or the ignition cylinder has worn down, and we test both before making a new key.

Ford Keys by Type

  • PATS chip keys: most Ford cars, pickups and vans from the late 1990s into the early 2010s, such as the F-150, Ranger, Explorer, Taurus and early Escape.
  • Integrated remote keys: a number of 2011-to-mid-2010s Fords, F-150, Explorer and Focus among them.
  • Flip keys: lower-trim Escape, Fusion and F-150 models from the 2010s on.
  • Intelligent Access fobs (push-button start): higher Fusion, Explorer, Escape, Edge and F-150 trims since the 2010s, plus the Expedition and Bronco Sport.

The same Ford model can take two kinds of key. A 2016 Escape S came with a flip key; a 2016 Escape Titanium came with Intelligent Access. Call (443) 527-1442, read us the VIN, and we'll know which key to bring.

Your truck's VIN is on the registration, the insurance card and the driver's door jamb sticker.

Ford Key Problems We Fix

Ford Intelligent Access (push-to-start) fobs

  • We program first, second and replacement fobs for the F-150, Explorer, Escape, Edge, Fusion and Expedition.
  • "No key detected" with the fob inside? A low battery is the common reason. Ford builds a fallback position for the fob into these models, like a cup holder, the console or the steering column. Which one varies, and your owner's manual shows it.
  • Every Ford fob has a removable metal key for opening the driver's door.

Broken Ford key? Flip blade, shell or buttons

  • The pivot is the weak point on Ford flip keys, so the blade starts to wobble or won't stay out. A new flip head fixes it, programmed to your vehicle.
  • Integrated remote keys split along the case and wear through the rubber buttons. We rebuild them or replace them outright.
  • On an older truck, a worn-down blade gets recut from the key code.

Before We Get There

  • Tell us whether it's a truck, an SUV or a work van, and the year.
  • If the truck is behind a locked gate, tell us which entrance to use.
  • Keep any spare Ford key handy. A second working key can make programming simpler on some models.

Good to Know

  1. Why does my Ford start and then die right away? The car may not be reading the key's chip. A new programmed key usually fixes it.
  2. Can you program a Ford key if I lost every key? Yes, for most Ford trucks and SUVs. It takes a bit longer than adding a spare.
  3. Can I keep my old Ford key after you make a new one? Yes. If it was lost, we can program the car so the old key no longer starts it.
  4. What is Ford Intelligent Access? Ford's name for push-button start. The vehicle detects the fob close by, so it unlocks and starts while the fob stays in your pocket.
  5. What is PATS on a Ford? PATS is Ford's anti-theft system. Because it reads the chip, a key copied at a hardware kiosk without programming won't start the engine.
  6. There's a keypad on my F-150's door. Is a key still needed? The keypad only unlocks the doors. Starting the truck still takes a key or fob programmed to it.
