Dodge and Ram Models We See Most
Charger · Challenger · Durango · Grand Caravan · Journey · Dart · Avenger · Caliber · Dakota · Ram 1500 · Ram 2500 · Ram 3500 · Ram ProMaster · ProMaster City
When Dodge and Ram Keys Act Up
- Remote start on your Ram stopped working? We check whether the fob lost its pairing and set it up with the truck again.
- Grand Caravan Fobik stuck in the dash? Don't force it out. The ignition switch may be holding it, and we can check that before anything breaks.
Dodge and Ram Keys by Type
- Chip keys (often with buttons in the head): older Dodge cars and minivans, the Dakota, and Ram pickups up to about 2008 (the Ram 1500 moved to the Fobik around 2009).
- Fobiks: the Grand Caravan from about 2008 to 2020, the Journey, the Avenger, the Durango around 2011 to 2013, and Charger, Challenger and Ram 1500 models without push-button start.
- Flip keys: the Dart, the Ram ProMaster and the ProMaster City.
- Keyless Enter 'n Go push-start fobs: most newer Durango, Charger and Challenger models, plus mid and upper trims of many Ram pickups, light and heavy duty.
A Ram's trim decides its key as much as its year. A 2015 Ram 1500 Tradesman usually has a Fobik, while many Laramie trucks that year start by button. Read the VIN to us at (443) 527-1442 so we can pin down the right key.
On a Ram, the VIN appears on the driver's door jamb label and on your registration; on a Dodge car, check the windshield's lower driver's-side corner too.
Dodge and Ram Key Problems We Fix
Dodge and Ram Keyless Enter 'n Go (push-to-start) fobs
- Charger, Challenger, Durango and Ram owners call us for added fobs and for fobs to replace lost ones.
- If the dash can't read the fob, a dead battery in it is the likely cause. Many of these models still start when the fob is used to push the start button. The exact steps are in your owner's manual.
- An emergency key for the door pops out when you press the fob's release.
Broken Dodge or Ram key? Fobik, buttons or blade
- A Fobik that cracks or loses its back cover can usually be rehoused if the chip still reads. If not, a new Fobik gets programmed.
- Daily work wears holes in the rubber buttons of Ram remote head keys. We replace the key or rebuild it with a new head.
- A Fobik that goes into the dash but refuses to turn can point to a bad ignition module, so the ignition gets tested first.
Before We Get There
- Tell us if it's a Dodge car, a Dodge SUV or a Ram truck, and the year.
- If you just bought the vehicle, have the title or the bill of sale with you.
- Bring the one key you have. Copying a working key is the simplest job.

Good to Know
- I bought a used Ram with one key. Can you make a spare? Yes. We cut and program a second key to the truck.
- Do Dodge and Ram trucks use the same Fobik? Many models use the same style, but each new Fobik is still programmed to your vehicle.
- Can the old key stop working after I buy a used Dodge? Yes. When we program your keys, we can remove keys you don't have from the car.
- Which Dodge and Ram models have Keyless Enter 'n Go? Most newer Chargers, Challengers and Durangos, and many mid and upper Ram trims. With it, the fob stays on you and a button starts the engine.
- Does a Ram work truck take a different key than a Laramie? Often, yes. Lower trims tend to use a Fobik or remote head key, and higher trims often have push-button start. Your VIN tells us for sure.
- No Dodge or Ram keys left. Is that fixable? Yes, for most models. A new key or fob is cut and coded on site, so the vehicle doesn't need a tow.
