Jeep Keys and Fobiks for Wranglers, Cherokees and More
AUTHORITY LOCKSMITH INC · JEEP KEYS
Some Jeeps use a classic key with remote buttons. Others use a Fobik that plugs into the dash, or a smart fob. We know them all, and we drive out around the clock to make a new one. Whether your Jeep uses a chip key, a flip key, a Fobik or a smart fob, it's part of our work. Call (443) 527-1442.

Jeep Models We See Most
Wrangler · Grand Cherokee · Cherokee · Compass · Renegade · Gladiator · Liberty · Patriot · Commander · Wagoneer · Grand Wagoneer
When Jeep Keys Act Up
- The fob buttons stop working after a muddy trip or a rainy day.
- Remote-button key turns but the Wrangler won't start? The chip in the head may not be reading, and we test it before making a new key.
Jeep Keys by Type
- Chip keys, many with remote buttons on the head: older Wrangler, Liberty, Grand Cherokee and Cherokee models, and most Wranglers and Patriots from about 2007 to 2017.
- Fobiks: the Grand Cherokee from about 2008 to 2013 and the Commander from about 2008 to 2010, on trims without push-button start.
- Flip keys: the Renegade and many newer Compass and Cherokee models with a turn ignition.
- Keyless Enter 'n Go fobs (start by button): upper Grand Cherokee trims since about 2011, the newer Wrangler and Gladiator on many trims, upper Cherokee and Compass trims, and the Wagoneer.
Jeep keys change with the trim. A 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo usually came with a Fobik, while an Overland from that year had Keyless Enter 'n Go. Have the VIN ready when you call (443) 527-1442, and we'll check which one yours takes.
Your Jeep's VIN can be read through the windshield at the driver's corner, and it's also on the title.
Jeep Key Problems We Fix
Jeep Keyless Enter 'n Go (push-to-start) fobs
- We program new and spare fobs for the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Gladiator, Cherokee and Compass.
- If the Jeep won't see the fob, start with a new battery. Many Keyless Enter 'n Go models also start when you push the button with the fob itself; your owner's manual shows the exact way.
Broken Jeep key? Fobik, remote head or blade
- A cracked Fobik case often still has a working chip and board inside. We test it, then rehouse it or program a new Fobik.
- On remote head keys, the plastic tends to break away from the blade. A new programmed key fixes it, or the good parts move to a new head.
- If no Fobik will turn in a Grand Cherokee, the fault may sit in the ignition module rather than the Fobik, so we test before making anything.
Before We Get There
- Tell us if your Jeep key is a Fobik, a blade key or a smart fob.
- Save the chewed or broken pieces.
- If the Jeep is off the main road, send us a pin from your phone.

Good to Know
- What is a Jeep Fobik? It's a fob that slides into the ignition slot instead of a key blade. It holds a chip and the remote buttons.
- Can I have a regular key and a fob for my Wrangler? Many Wranglers come with a remote head key. We can make an extra one for your spare set.
- How does Keyless Enter 'n Go work on a Jeep? It's Jeep's name for keyless entry with a start button. Keep the fob on you, and the doors and engine respond when it's close.
- Does a Jeep Fobik or smart fob hold a hidden key? Yes. Press the small release and an emergency key comes out for the door lock.
- Every Jeep key is lost. Can a new one be made? Yes, on most Jeep models. The new key or fob is programmed to your Jeep wherever it is, without a tow.
