Acura Models We See Most
MDX · RDX · TLX · TL · TSX · ILX · Integra · RL · RLX · ZDX · RSX · CL
When Acura Keys Act Up
- Immobilizer light blinking on an older Acura? The car can't read the key's chip. We test the chip first, then decide if a new key is needed.
- Fob locked inside the MDX? We open the car first, then see whether the fob still works.
Acura Keys by Type
- Chip keys (no buttons): older Integra, RSX, CL, TL and early MDX models, roughly late 1990s to mid-2000s.
- Remote head keys: TL, TSX, ILX, RDX and many MDX models from about the mid-2000s into the mid-2010s.
- Keyless Access smart fobs (start by button): the RDX from 2013, the TLX, RLX and newer MDX and Integra, and higher trims of some earlier models.
Model year can move a car to a new key. A 2012 RDX takes a one-piece remote key, but the redesigned 2013 RDX starts by button with a Keyless Access fob. Once you read us the VIN on a call to (443) 527-1442, the right Acura key comes with us.
Your Acura's VIN appears on the registration and on the door jamb label you see when the driver's door is open.
Acura Key Problems We Fix
Acura Keyless Access (push-to-start) fobs
- We set up spare and replacement fobs for the MDX, RDX, TLX, ILX and Integra.
- An out-of-range warning with the fob in the car most often traces back to a low fob battery. The A logo trick is in the FAQ below.
- There's a built-in metal key in every fob for the driver's door.
Broken Acura key? Shell, blade or buttons
- Acura remote head keys tend to split where the blade meets the plastic. Your remote and chip can move into a new shell.
- Fob cases crack along the edges, and the buttons wear flat. If the board inside works, it goes into a fresh case.
- A worn blade that sticks in the ignition or door can be cut new to factory depth from the key code.
Before We Get There
- Tell us if your Acura has a start button.
- Tell us if anyone else drives the car and needs a key too.
- If you're inside a building, tell us where you'll meet us.

Good to Know
- Are Acura and Honda keys the same? Many look alike, but each Acura key still has to be cut and programmed for your car.
- Can you make a valet key for my Acura? Yes. We can cut and program a button-free key that opens the doors and starts the car.
- How does Keyless Access work on an Acura? It pairs keyless entry with a button you press to start. The car picks up the fob nearby, so you can unlock and start without taking it out.
- My Acura says the key isn't detected. What should I try? Put the A logo side of the fob on the start button, then push it. A car that starts that way just needs a fob battery; one that doesn't needs a call to (443) 527-1442.
- Can you make an Acura key if I don't have one? Yes, for most Acura models. Working from the key code, we cut a blade and pair a fresh key or fob with the car on site.
